Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday emphasized the need for a political resolution to the escalating security and political challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He urged political parties to engage in dialogue with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to prevent the imposition of emergency or governor’s rule in the province.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Bilawal revealed that the federal government had been coordinating with President Asif Ali Zardari and the PPP for about a week regarding the worsening situation in KP, which includes repeated terrorist attacks and cross-border incidents originating from Afghanistan. He noted that the federal authorities appeared prepared to implement emergency measures or governor’s rule if deemed necessary, both of which are constitutionally sanctioned options.
In a significant development, Bilawal stressed that the PPP advocates exhausting all political avenues before resorting to such drastic constitutional interventions. He called for a united effort by the government and opposition to collaboratively tackle terrorism in the region. “We must strive to find a political solution before deploying our constitutional ‘atomic bomb’ by imposing emergency,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, the situation in KP remains tense as security concerns continue to mount, highlighting the urgency of a peaceful political dialogue to stabilize the province.
