Pakistan firmly dismissed accusations made by the Afghan Taliban regime regarding its involvement in violence in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, labeling the claims as unfounded and lacking any factual basis. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a statement on Sunday emphasizing that Pakistan’s security forces or intelligence agencies had no role in the internal conflicts occurring in Nuristan or other parts of Afghanistan.
Furthermore, the ministry denied allegations that Pakistan was recruiting or training former Afghan security personnel or facilitating terrorist groups such as Daesh operating within Afghanistan. It highlighted the absence of any credible evidence, including identities, documents, communications, forensic proof, or independent verification, to support these assertions.
In a significant development, the ministry also questioned the authenticity of a video circulating on social media, which purportedly supported the Taliban’s claims. The footage reportedly showed a few unarmed individuals who appeared inadequately dressed and equipped, suggesting that the video might have been staged.
Pakistan accused the Afghan Taliban regime of frequently making false and fabricated statements. It pointed out that the presence and activities of various terrorist organizations in Afghanistan have been well documented by the United Nations and other international bodies over time.
The ministry stressed that attempts to link Pakistan to these groups could not hide the reality that Afghanistan continues to provide sanctuary and a conducive environment for terrorist organizations to grow. It criticized the Taliban for blaming Pakistan while militant groups operating from Afghan soil pose a direct threat to Pakistan and regional security.
Instead of attributing its internal security problems to external actors, the ministry urged the Taliban authorities to take credible and verifiable measures against terrorist groups based in Afghanistan. It also called on the Afghan government to honor its commitments to prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan or any other nation.
Additionally, the ministry condemned the Taliban regime’s efforts to externalize internal dissent, linking these claims to the ongoing oppression of women, children, and minorities under Taliban rule.
