ECC Approves Donkey Meat and Hide Exports to China via Gwadar Port

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of Pakistan’s federal cabinet has granted approval for exporting donkey meat and hides to China through Gwadar Port. This decision follows a proposal presented by the Food Security Division and was finalized during the latest ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The committee authorized the disposal and shipment of existing stocks in accordance with established regulations and agreed trade protocols, effectively clearing the path for these exports to commence. Meanwhile, the ECC received an update on the national economic situation, highlighting that inflationary pressures are beginning to subside. Prices of essential goods have started to stabilize after recent volatility, with data indicating a deceleration in the rate of price increases, signaling a gradual return to price stability.

In addition to export approvals, the ECC sanctioned several technical supplementary grants across various sectors. These included funding for institutional improvements, support packages for government employees stationed in provincial areas, and financial incentives for the national hockey team in recognition of their qualification for the World Cup. The committee also allocated funds to cover liabilities of Pakistan International Airlines, addressing obligations related to pensions, salaries, and medical expenses.

In a significant development, the ECC endorsed revisions to the country’s import policy to ensure compliance with international labor standards. These amendments introduce restrictions on importing goods manufactured using forced labor, aligning Pakistan’s trade policies with global labor commitments.
