Parachinar Airport Reopens After Major Upgrades, Resumes Operations

Parachinar Airport, situated in the Kurram district, has resumed operations following a lengthy closure, marking a pivotal advancement for the area. The airport underwent significant restoration and modernization through a collaborative effort between the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).

On April 26, aviation officials conducted a series of landing and takeoff trials to assess the upgraded facilities. During this testing phase, six successful flight operations were completed, confirming that the runway and associated infrastructure comply with international safety and operational standards.

In a significant development, the airport’s reopening is expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve emergency response capabilities, and stimulate economic growth in the region. Last year, representatives from the Pakistan Airports Authority and Pakistan International Airlines visited the site to evaluate its potential for commercial and humanitarian flights.

Additionally, the government formed an eight-member committee comprising officials from PAA and PIA to thoroughly review the airport’s infrastructure and determine the feasibility of its reopening. This coordinated effort has culminated in the airport’s return to active service, promising improved accessibility and development opportunities for Kurram district.
