Sindh Declares Public Holiday on April 4 to Commemorate Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto

Following the recent Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, residents of Sindh will observe an additional public holiday on April 4. The provincial government has officially declared this day a holiday to commemorate the 47th death anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, a prominent political figure and the founding chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

In a formal notification issued on Monday, the Sindh administration confirmed the holiday, continuing its tradition of honoring Bhutto’s legacy annually. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s political history, serving as the country’s fourth President from 1971 to 1973 before becoming its ninth Prime Minister from 1973 until 1977.

Bhutto’s tenure was marked by significant political developments, but it ended abruptly when he was overthrown by General Ziaul Haq’s military regime. In a controversial and widely debated trial, Bhutto was accused of involvement in the murder of a political rival, leading to his execution in 1979. His death remains a significant event in Pakistan’s political narrative, especially in Sindh, where his party retains substantial influence.

Notably, the Sindh government’s annual declaration of a local holiday on April 4 serves as a tribute to Bhutto’s enduring impact on the province and the nation. This observance allows citizens to reflect on his contributions and the complex history surrounding his leadership and demise.
