A court in Karachi on Friday accepted a plea seeking the acquittal of Anmol, also known as Pinky, in a narcotics case. The court cleared her for lack of evidence and directed that she be freed at once, unless she is wanted in another case.
The case was first registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department police station in 2018. Before this ruling, she had already been acquitted in four other cases.
Earlier acquittals in Gizri police station cases
In August, an Additional District and Sessions Court (South) in Karachi cleared the alleged drug dealer in three separate drug-related cases registered at the Gizri Police Station. Defence counsel said those cases were lodged against her in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and that she had previously been declared an absconder in all three.
Co-accused cleared, weakening the prosecution case
The lawyer told the court that two co-accused, Ali and Fahmida, were acquitted in 2024. The defence argued that Anmol was implicated only on the basis of statements allegedly made by those co-accused, so prosecutors could no longer secure a conviction.
The court noted that prosecutors had not produced adequate evidence against her before ruling in her favour.
