A woman and her three children were injured after their car plunged into a pit at an under-construction project in a residential society in Karachi’s Manghopir area, police said. The crash happened at night, when the vehicle dropped from a height into an excavation site.
Police said the woman was behind the wheel and that all four occupants were hurt. Police sources named the driver as 50-year-old Samia. Two of the injured children are aged 17 and six, while the age of the third child was not immediately available.
Car stayed in pit for hours before crane recovery
The vehicle remained in the pit for several hours before a crane was used to lift it out. According to early information, neither residents nor the management of the housing society informed police or rescue services about the incident.
Police reached the scene to examine how the accident happened. Initial police findings suggested that speeding may have contributed to the crash. All four injured people were taken to a private hospital for treatment, police sources said, and authorities are still collecting further details.
Separate sinkhole incident on Tariq Road
In a separate case on April 3, 2026, a moving car carrying two women dropped into a large sinkhole after a section of road caved in near Cafe Liberty on Karachi’s Tariq Road. The vehicle landed in several feet of water, and nearby residents rushed to alert police and rescue teams.
Rescue personnel pulled both women from the car safely, and heavy machinery was later used to recover the vehicle. Police cordoned off the area and halted vehicle and pedestrian movement to prevent further danger. No injuries or deaths were reported in that incident.
The episode drew criticism from local residents over the state of the city’s infrastructure and the performance of civic bodies, including the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
