Police in Karachi have registered a double murder case after an elderly couple, who had recently come back from Canada, were found dead at their home in North Karachi. The bodies showed signs of violence.
The case was lodged at Sir Syed Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Anwar, the brother of the male victim, under the relevant murder provisions. The victims have been named as Yameen and his wife, Nafisa Akhtar.
Brother found bodies after losing contact
Anwar told police he grew worried when the couple stopped answering their phones. He went to the house, used a duplicate key to get in, and found both bodies in the TV lounge, lying in a large pool of blood. He then alerted the police.
The complainant said Yameen had started renovation work at the property after returning from Canada and had asked his sister to move out. Anwar alleged that unidentified assailants killed the couple for reasons that are not known.
Head injuries point to possible heavy object
Post-mortem examinations were carried out at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Investigative sources said both victims had suffered severe head injuries, which raised suspicion that a heavy object may have been used.
Police have yet to trace the labourers who had been working at the house, and investigators are questioning workers in the area to establish how the killings happened and who was responsible. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar sought details from SSP Central and directed police to act immediately to establish the facts. He also told Central Police to meet all legal requirements and submit a report with the incident details and initial findings.
