Police in Karachi have lodged a narcotics case against Azad Jakhrani, the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Aijaz Jakhrani, over drugs allegedly found at his bungalow in the city.
The case was filed at Darakhshan Police Station on behalf of the state and includes four serious provisions under anti-narcotics laws, according to police.
Suspect stopped during patrol near Clock Tower
Police said a motorcyclist behaving suspiciously was stopped near the Clock Tower during routine patrolling. A search of the suspect allegedly turned up 18 boxes of cocaine and 41 packets of ice, or crystal methamphetamine, wrapped in a plastic bag. Police put the cocaine at 62 grammes and the ice at 106 grammes.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly told officers the drugs belonged to Azad Jakhrani. He also claimed Jakhrani ran a drug business from his bungalow and that the supplied drugs had been collected from the property.
Search of Khayaban-e-Seher bungalow and cupboard
Acting on that statement, a police team took the suspect to the bungalow in Khayaban-e-Seher, where he allegedly pointed out a wooden cupboard holding more narcotics. Police said shopping bags bearing a supermarket logo were recovered from the cupboard, several of them holding packets of ice, while a separate bag contained 32 more boxes of cocaine.
Police also said a digital weighing scale and other items were seized during the search. The ice taken from the cupboard weighed more than one kilogram, while the additional cocaine weighed 22 grammes.
Owner reportedly abroad, allegations rest on police account
When officers questioned the bungalow’s watchman, he told them the owner, Azad Jakhrani, was out of the country, according to the police account. The allegations against Jakhrani are based on that account and the arrested suspect’s statement.
