Burglars forced their way into the Maha Shakti Mata Temple in Shikarpur district, where police and temple officials say the haul includes gold jewellery, money, ancient relics and other items valued at millions of rupees. The break-in took place under the limits of Stuart Gunj police station, and the suspects allegedly smashed the temple’s locks to get inside.
Gold offerings and donations taken from the shrine
According to temple officials, the robbers took gold jewellery placed on the idols, including a chain removed from one idol’s neck. They also cracked open a safe and emptied the cash inside, which contained contributions from worshippers.
Antique pieces, crockery and valuables kept in two cupboards were also reportedly taken. Temple custodian Poon Kumar said the missing gold, cash and antiques were of considerable worth, adding that part of the money and supplies had been set aside for needy people.
Temple management has urged police to arrest those responsible and recover the stolen property.
