Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi is scheduled to preside over a provincial Apex Committee meeting today, aimed at assessing law and order and governance across the province. Samar Haroon Bilour, a member of the provincial advisory council, made the announcement on Monday.
Bilour said the meeting would bring together the corps commander, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police and other senior officials. Key decisions on the province’s situation are expected to emerge from the session.
Apex Committee meeting and its contrast with the previous administration
Bilour argued that her government’s approach would differ clearly from that of Sohail Afridi’s administration. She noted that she had called the committee’s session on the first day, whereas Afridi had convened it only after 112 days.
Security, detentions and road closures in the province
Bilour said the situation remained under control throughout the province, including Peshawar, with no untoward incident reported from any area. She also said Sohail Afridi and some other PTI leaders were being held in protective custody.
Detainees against whom no cases had been registered would be freed soon, she added. Lawlessness would not be tolerated, although political activity would be allowed within the bounds of the law and the constitution.
Educational institutions were shut for one day because of blocked roads. Bilour said containers would be cleared from highways within a day or two.
