The federal government has formally authorised the deployment of Pakistan Army troops and resources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to help the civil administration maintain law and order, according to a deployment order. The authorisation was granted under Article 245 of the Constitution.
It will remain in effect for the duration of a proclamation the federal government issued on October 11, 2026, under Articles 232 and 234.
Army role in protecting citizens and state installations
The order says the deployment aims to protect the lives and property of citizens and to safeguard government installations amid the prevailing law and order situation in the province. Under the arrangement, the army will assist civil authorities in keeping the peace and ensuring public safety across the province.
Governor to set troop numbers after GHQ consultation
The governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will determine how many troops and resources are deployed, in consultation with the Military Operations Directorate at General Headquarters (GHQ), the order states. The deployment order will be published in the Gazette of Pakistan, Part II.
