Authorities have enforced Section 144 in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in response to ongoing security and law and order challenges. The directive covers all districts within the Dera Ismail Khan Division, including Tank, Upper South Waziristan, and Lower South Waziristan.
The restrictions aim to curb public movement as well as the transit of certain vehicles amid the tense situation. In Lower South Waziristan, the movement of loader rickshaws, single- and double-cabin cargo vehicles, Shehzores, Mazda trucks, Suzuki loaders, and dumpers has been prohibited specifically in Wana and Azam Warsak areas. These measures took effect at 9pm on October 1 and will continue until 9pm on October 10.
Meanwhile, in Upper South Waziristan, similar bans on loader rickshaws, cargo vehicles, Shehzores, Mazda trucks, Suzuki loaders, tractor-trolleys, and dumpers are in place from October 3 through October 5. The restrictions target the movement of these vehicles to maintain control over the security environment.
In Dera Ismail Khan district, movement has been limited on Tank Road, Kulachi, Hathala, Kot Atal, Garh Abdullah, and several connecting roads. These restrictions are enforced daily from 6am to 6pm between October 4 and October 6. Additionally, Potta Hathala Bazaar will remain closed during this timeframe.
Tank district authorities have also imposed curbs on pedestrian, passenger, and cargo vehicle movement along multiple routes. These will be effective from 9pm on October 3 until noon on October 5. Notably, emergency movement for law enforcement agencies, security forces, and emergency services with official authorization is exempted from these restrictions.
Violators of Section 144 are subject to legal proceedings under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). This move follows a similar imposition of Section 144 in Dera Ismail Khan on September 3, which had led to the closure of several roads to address law and order concerns.
