The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has implemented a five-day working week for all government and private colleges throughout the region, designating Saturdays and Sundays as official weekly holidays.
In a formal notification, the department announced that this new schedule is effective immediately, requiring colleges to operate from Monday through Friday. This directive applies uniformly to all public and private colleges under the department’s jurisdiction.
College administrations have been instructed to enforce the updated timetable, ensuring that academic classes and routine activities are conducted during the weekdays, while weekends remain free from official duties.
This move aligns AJK’s college weekly schedule with the five-day workweek commonly observed by educational institutions in other provinces such as Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Saturday and Sunday are standard holidays. Similarly, Balochistan also follows a two-day weekend for its educational sector.
Notably, the decision explicitly includes both government and private colleges managed by the Higher Education Department, marking a significant step toward standardizing academic calendars across the region.
