PM Shehbaz Sharif Unveils Rs 38 Billion Ramadan Relief with Rs 13,000 Aid per Family

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially announced the launch of an unprecedented Rs 38 billion Ramadan Relief Package for the year 2026, aimed at providing substantial financial assistance to millions of families across Pakistan. This ambitious initiative offers Rs 13,000 to each eligible beneficiary, a significant increase from last year’s Rs 5,000, reflecting the government’s commitment to easing the economic burden on households during the holy month of Ramadan.

The relief program stands out as the most extensive and inclusive effort of its kind in Pakistan’s history, encompassing all provinces and territories, including the often-overlooked regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This comprehensive coverage ensures that support reaches even the most remote and underserved communities, reinforcing the government’s pledge to leave no family behind during this critical period.

By the eighth day of Ramadan, the government had successfully disbursed payments to approximately 64% of the registered beneficiaries, demonstrating the rapid pace of implementation. The distribution process leverages digital wallet technology, which not only expedites the delivery of funds but also enhances transparency and reduces the need for physical queues, thereby minimizing inconvenience and maintaining dignity for recipients. To date, over 1.1 million digital transactions have been completed, highlighting the scale and efficiency of the operation.

In an effort to maximize outreach and awareness, the government has also conducted 1.227 million automated phone calls to inform eligible families about the relief package and guide them through the process. This proactive communication strategy ensures that beneficiaries are well-informed and can access their funds without delay. The disbursement is being managed through a collaborative network of twelve banks and fintech companies, combining traditional financial institutions with innovative technology providers to streamline the process.

To maintain accountability and monitor progress in real time, the authorities have established dynamic dashboards that track every payment transaction. This system allows officials to oversee the distribution closely and address any issues promptly, reinforcing the government’s focus on transparency and efficiency. During a high-level review meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of speed, transparency, and respect for beneficiaries throughout the rollout.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the rising cost of living and inflationary pressures that have made Ramadan particularly challenging for many families this year. He praised the dedication of the institutions and personnel involved in managing the relief package, underlining the government’s resolve to provide timely and meaningful support. Federal ministers, senior government officials, and representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan were present at the meeting, providing detailed updates on the implementation status and discussing strategies to ensure that all eligible families receive their entitlements without delay.

This landmark initiative not only reflects the government’s commitment to social welfare during Ramadan but also sets a new standard for the delivery of financial aid in Pakistan. By combining technology, coordination among multiple stakeholders, and a focus on inclusivity, the Rs 38 billion Ramadan Relief Package aims to alleviate economic hardships and bring relief to millions of households across the country during this sacred month.
