ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the bail application of Safdar Irfan, who faces allegations of posting photographs of his former wife on social media platforms. The bench expressed strong condemnation of his conduct throughout the hearing.
The case was reviewed by a three-judge panel consisting of Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim. During the session, Justice Hashim Kakar questioned whether the accused was willing to have the First Information Report (FIR) publicly read aloud.
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim highlighted that the images involved belonged to the accused’s own wife, while Justice Shakeel Ahmed described the act as profoundly immoral, noting it occurred after the woman had filed for divorce.
Safdar Irfan’s legal representative informed the court that the woman currently resides in Dubai and that the accused had already spent six months in custody. However, Justice Hashim Kakar responded sternly, stating, “The accused has forced the woman to leave the country.” He further questioned, “What positive action has he taken? This individual should remain detained for life.”
The court emphasized the violation of a sacred bond, with Justice Kakar remarking, “A woman’s dignity is her veil,” underscoring the gravity of the accused’s breach. Additionally, the court confirmed that the accused’s mobile phone had been seized as part of the evidence.
In a significant development, the bench concluded that bail was inappropriate in this matter and consequently rejected the plea. Following the decision, the defense counsel withdrew the case entirely.
