Intermittent rainfall persisted throughout Friday in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to maintain a heightened state of readiness amid the ongoing monsoon season. The continuous downpour has raised concerns over potential urban flooding, especially in vulnerable low-lying areas.
In a significant development, WASA’s Managing Director confirmed that emergency response teams along with heavy machinery have been strategically positioned to tackle any flooding incidents swiftly. Particular attention is being paid to Nullah Lai, a critical drainage channel, where water levels have so far remained within manageable limits. However, authorities remain vigilant given the unpredictable nature of monsoon rains.
Meanwhile, the persistent rain has led to water accumulation at the Seventh Avenue underpass, causing notable traffic disruptions in the capital city. This situation underscores the challenges faced by urban infrastructure during heavy rainfall events, affecting daily commuters and emergency services alike.
Official meteorological data recorded rainfall amounts of 31mm in Saidpur, 40mm in Golra, 17mm in Bokra, 13mm in Shamsabad, and 17mm in New Katarian. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and stay alert as the rain is expected to continue in the coming days. WASA teams remain on standby, ready to respond promptly to any emergencies that may arise due to the ongoing monsoon conditions.
