At least 18 miners lost their lives following a gas explosion in a coal mine located in the Sorange area of Balochistan. Rescue teams persisted on Friday in their efforts to find any remaining workers who might still be trapped underground.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that 18 bodies have been recovered so far. Emergency responders continue to search the collapsed mine for additional miners believed to be inside.
Balochistan’s Minister for Mines and Minerals, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, highlighted the challenging conditions faced by rescue teams, noting that all available resources are being deployed to reach those trapped.
He emphasized that the provincial government is closely monitoring the rescue operations in real time and is committed to exhausting every effort in the ongoing relief work.
Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, Nosherwani assured that the government stands in solidarity with those affected by this tragic event. He also announced that a comprehensive investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the explosion, alongside a review of safety measures within the mining sector to prevent future incidents.
In a significant development, the minister declared that the government will provide financial compensation amounting to Rs500,000 to each family of the miners who died in the explosion. Additionally, injured workers will receive Rs300,000 each as compensation.
