The Punjab government is moving forward with plans to acquire a fleet of 108 new vehicles, with a total estimated cost of Rs1.14 billion, aimed at serving ministers, bureaucrats, and various official departments throughout the year. This significant procurement initiative reflects the administration’s intent to upgrade and expand its transportation resources to meet the growing demands of government operations.

The Transport Wing has formally submitted detailed recommendations outlining the specifications and quantities of vehicles required. These proposals are currently awaiting final approval from the relevant authorities before the purchasing process can officially commence. Officials involved in the process have indicated that once greenlit, the acquisition will proceed promptly to ensure timely delivery and deployment of the vehicles.

Among the proposed purchases, the Punjab cabinet is set to receive 28 new vehicles, collectively valued at approximately Rs300 million. This allocation includes a diverse range of models tailored to different official needs, such as one Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 vehicles, five Toyota Grande Altis, ten Toyota Altis, and ten Toyota Yaris cars. This varied selection is intended to provide both luxury and utility, accommodating the varying preferences and requirements of cabinet members.

In addition to the general fleet, the government has already approved the purchase of two bulletproof four-by-four vehicles, costing around Rs40 million, designated for two ministers. This move underscores the priority given to the security and safety of high-ranking officials amid increasing concerns over protection in the current environment.

Separately, the government has also sanctioned the acquisition of 25 vehicles, valued at Rs270 million, specifically for VIP security duties. This approval highlights the emphasis placed on enhancing security arrangements and ensuring that personnel responsible for protecting key figures have access to reliable and well-equipped transportation.

Furthermore, a substantial portion of the budget, amounting to Rs530 million, is earmarked for vehicles intended for the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team. This team plays a crucial role in overseeing government projects and field activities across the province. The proposed fleet for this unit includes 30 double-cabin pickup trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris, and three Toyota Altis vehicles. To support versatile mobility, the transport pool will also feature Suzuki Cultus cars and motorcycles, enabling the team to navigate diverse terrains and conduct thorough inspections efficiently.

Officials have emphasized that the procurement process will move forward only after all recommendations receive the necessary final approvals. Once this step is completed, the government will initiate the purchase procedures to ensure the new vehicles are integrated into official use without delay. This comprehensive vehicle acquisition plan is expected to significantly bolster the operational capabilities of Punjab’s government officials and security personnel in the coming months.
