Authorities in Lahore have detained two individuals, including a woman, in connection with the discovery of a newborn’s body left at a children’s hospital. The incident took place at the Children’s Hospital located in the Naseerabad area, where the infant was abandoned in the emergency ward on April 21 before the perpetrators fled.

Law enforcement officials identified the suspects through CCTV footage and advanced tracing methods. A dedicated team, led by SP Model Town Asad Ali and SDPO Garden Town, was established to investigate and apprehend those responsible.

Asad Ali confirmed that the suspects were captured on camera leaving the infant at the hospital and then escaping the scene. The arrested individuals, named Amina Bibi and Allah Wasaya, hail from Rahim Yar Khan district and had been residing near Lahore’s Hafeez Centre area.

Police continue their efforts to locate a third suspect, Sana, who remains at large. The cause of the newborn’s death has not yet been revealed, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.

Senior police officials emphasized that the case is being handled with utmost priority. Asad Ali commended the investigative team for their swift action in identifying and arresting the suspects, announcing that commendation certificates will be awarded to the officers involved.

Incidents involving abandoned newborns occasionally emerge in Pakistan, prompting concern among human rights advocates about the social challenges and deficiencies in maternal and child welfare services.
