In Islamabad, members of the Gilgit-Baltistan civil society organized a candlelight vigil to honor the mountaineers who tragically lost their lives in the recent avalanche on Broad Peak. The event drew a diverse crowd from various backgrounds, all united in their support for the grieving families, local communities, and the broader mountaineering fraternity affected by the loss.

Notably, the Nepalese Ambassador to Pakistan was present at the vigil, paying respects to the fallen climbers and acknowledging their bravery, passion, and significant contributions to the global mountaineering community.

Among the attendees were esteemed Pakistani mountaineers Nazir Sabir and Ashraf Aman, who expressed heartfelt condolences and sorrow over the tragedy. During the event, they specifically honored the young climbers, including Sohail Sakhi, highlighting their dedication, courage, and profound love for the mountainous regions.

Both speakers emphasized that this loss represents a deep tragedy for Pakistan and a considerable setback for mountaineers worldwide. They reflected on how the mountains have long symbolized pride, inspiration, and identity for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and the entire nation.

They also stressed the importance of remembering those who devote their lives to mountaineering and standing in solidarity with their families and communities during such difficult times.

The vigil served as a solemn occasion for citizens, mountaineers, diplomats, and civil society members to unite in remembrance. Participants lit candles and observed a moment of silence to honor all those who perished on Broad Peak.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Civil Society extended its deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased climbers, paying homage to their courage, spirit, and lasting impact on the mountaineering fraternity.
