Veteran Indian actor Pradeep Rawat, renowned for his compelling villainous roles, especially as Ghajini Dharmatma in the film Ghajini, passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday at the age of 74. He had been fighting blood cancer prior to his death.

His passing triggered an outpouring of grief on social media from Bollywood fans and industry figures alike, who remembered his significant contributions to Indian cinema. Notably, Aamir Khan, the lead star of Ghajini, paid an emotional tribute, emphasizing that the film’s success was deeply tied to Rawat’s powerful portrayal of the antagonist.

Rawat’s career spanned over three decades, during which he appeared in more than 50 films across Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil cinema. He debuted in 1985 with the film Aitbaar, playing a police inspector, and gradually established himself as one of the most memorable character actors in Indian film history.

Actor Yashpal Sharma, who shared screen space with Rawat in the acclaimed film Lagaan, also expressed sorrow over his demise, highlighting Rawat’s enduring impact on the industry. Similarly, actor Thakur Anoop Singh described Rawat as an inspiration, praising his resilience and stating that he “lived like a lion,” honoring his legacy.

Many other personalities joined in paying homage, acknowledging Rawat’s powerful performances that have left a lasting influence on generations of viewers. From Lagaan to Ghajini, his portrayals of antagonists remain some of Indian cinema’s most unforgettable.

Fans also took to social media to express their admiration, with one noting that Indian cinema has lost a remarkable performer whose screen presence and characters will be remembered forever. Another tribute highlighted how each of Rawat’s performances showcased his exceptional talent, leaving a permanent mark on audiences.

Throughout his career, Rawat was particularly recognized in Telugu cinema, gaining prominence with the film Sye. He became a sought-after actor for intense antagonist roles, solidifying his place as a formidable figure in Indian films.
