    Celebrated Poet and Naat Reciter Syed Salman Gilani Passes Away at 74

    LAHORE: The literary and religious communities mourn the loss of Syed Salman Gilani, a distinguished poet, naat reciter, and orator, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 74. Gilani had been battling serious health issues for an extended period, receiving treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital where he was admitted due to complications related to his heart and liver. Despite the dedicated medical care, his condition deteriorated in recent weeks, leading to his untimely demise.

    Syed Salman Gilani’s contributions to Urdu poetry and religious recitations earned him widespread admiration across Pakistan. His unique style, characterized by simplicity and emotional depth, made his poetry and naats accessible and relatable to a broad audience. Over the years, his verses became a staple at religious gatherings, where his heartfelt recitations inspired many. In addition to his devotional work, Gilani was also celebrated for his humorous poetry, which brought joy and laughter to his listeners, showcasing his versatility as a poet.

    The funeral prayers for Syed Salman Gilani are scheduled to be held after Zuhr prayers today at Jamia Ashrafia in Lahore. The gathering is expected to be a significant event, reflecting the profound impact Gilani had on those who knew him personally and through his work.

    Expressing his condolences, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), praised Gilani’s poetic contributions and his devotion to religious expression. He described the late poet as a respected figure whose spiritual poetry had touched many lives. Maulana Fazlur Rehman also highlighted the close relationship Gilani shared with his family and prayed for his eternal peace and forgiveness.

    Syed Salman Gilani’s passing marks the end of an era for many who cherished his poetic voice and spiritual guidance. His work continues to inspire new generations, ensuring that his legacy will endure long beyond his years. As Lahore and the nation bid farewell to this cherished poet, his memory remains alive in the hearts of countless admirers.
