Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem concluded his campaign in fifth place in the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship held on Sunday, narrowly missing out on a medal.

Nadeem’s top throw reached 81.49 metres on his third attempt, marking his best performance of the season. His earlier attempts measured 74.42 metres and 79.66 metres respectively.

Only the four best performers advanced to the final round, which meant Nadeem’s competition ended after his initial three throws.

In a significant development, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage clinched the gold medal with an impressive throw of 91.09 metres. Grenada’s Anderson Peters took silver with a distance of 86.18 metres, while Germany’s Julian Weber earned the bronze with 85.89 metres. Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott secured fourth place with a throw of 82.41 metres.

Kenya’s Julius Yego finished sixth with a mark of 80.23 metres, followed by Poland’s Dawid Wegner at 77.21 metres and the USA’s Curtis Thompson with 75.80 metres.

Despite his Olympic gold triumph at the Paris 2024 Games, Nadeem was unable to replicate that medal-winning form at this championship. Nevertheless, his 81.49-metre throw remains the best he has recorded this season.
