ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif underscored the critical role of infrastructure development and tourism in advancing Gilgit-Baltistan’s long-term growth during the Gilgit-Baltistan Parliamentary Board meeting on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the PML-N has consistently prioritized the welfare of Gilgit-Baltistan, asserting that no political party understands the region better. Nawaz Sharif highlighted that development initiatives, especially in road infrastructure, are fundamental rights for the local population rather than mere favors.

In a significant development, he noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is dedicating special attention to the uplift of Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting his personal vision for the area’s progress. Nawaz Sharif pointed to an ongoing road project valued at over Rs60 billion, which has notably shortened travel distances, enhanced connectivity, and stimulated economic activities throughout the region.

He further remarked on Gilgit-Baltistan’s vast tourism potential, attracting visitors worldwide eager to experience its natural beauty. Nawaz Sharif stressed that the PML-N has moved beyond promises by implementing tangible development measures, citing ongoing projects in Islamabad and Punjab as examples and encouraging other provinces to emulate these efforts.

Expressing his deep connection to Gilgit-Baltistan, Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed that the region holds equal importance to him as other parts of Pakistan and assured that it will remain integral to the nation’s overall development trajectory.
