In Rawalpindi, law enforcement officials successfully apprehended a suspect connected to a recent violent street robbery that left a young girl assaulted and robbed. The arrest was announced on Thursday, highlighting the swift response by the local police force to a disturbing incident that had shaken the community.
The suspect, identified as Sabeel, was taken into custody by a specialized team assembled under the leadership of SSP Operations Tariq Mehmood. Authorities revealed that Sabeel hails from Azad Kashmir and has a history of involvement in similar criminal activities, raising concerns about his repeated offenses in the region.
Crucial to the investigation was the use of CCTV footage, which captured the suspect in the act of snatching a bag from the young victim. The video also showed the suspect assaulting the girl and discharging a firearm during the robbery, an alarming escalation that underscored the danger posed to innocent civilians. The victim promptly filed a report at the Waris Khan Police Station, setting the wheels of justice in motion.
Following the arrest, police recovered the stolen items, including several mobile phones and the girl’s purse, from the suspect’s possession. This recovery not only provided tangible evidence but also offered some relief to the victim and her family, who had been distressed by the ordeal.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson, Hina Parvez Butt, publicly commended the police for their prompt and effective action. In a statement shared on social media, she emphasized the government’s commitment to law and order, remarking, “This is Maryam Nawaz’s government — where can anyone go after committing a crime? I appreciate the police for taking prompt action and arresting the suspect.” Her remarks highlighted the administration’s focus on ensuring safety and justice for women across Punjab.
The incident itself unfolded a day earlier when two sisters were returning home after shopping at a local market. The armed robber targeted them in a brazen attempt to seize their belongings. Despite the threat, the sisters resisted fiercely, prompting the assailant to fire shots. Fortunately, the bullets missed their mark and struck the ground, sparing the sisters from physical harm.
One of the sisters, Mahnoor Usman, demonstrated remarkable bravery during the confrontation. She struggled valiantly to overpower the attacker, even as she was assaulted. Despite her courageous resistance, the suspect managed to escape with three mobile phones and a purse. This act of defiance by the young girl has been widely praised as a symbol of resilience in the face of crime.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing street crimes in urban areas like Rawalpindi. The police’s quick response and successful arrest underscore their dedication to protecting citizens and maintaining public safety. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help prevent such incidents in the future.
