Pakistan successfully prevented an attempted infiltration by Afghan Taliban fighters along its western frontier, with multiple militants killed during retaliatory operations. The confrontation occurred in the Chaman border area, where intermittent exchanges of fire between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters continued.
Pakistani security personnel responded swiftly to provocative gunfire, deploying quadcopters and mortar strikes to target Taliban positions. These actions effectively stopped the militants from entering Pakistani territory, with security forces maintaining a high state of alert.
Meanwhile, the Afghan Taliban have yet to issue a statement regarding the Pakistani claims. This incident marks a resurgence of hostilities following several months of relative calm between the neighboring countries.
The recent escalation follows a deadly attack on a police facility in Kohat, which resulted in 24 fatalities. In response, the Pakistani Air Force conducted airstrikes on Thursday against 10 locations in Afghanistan reportedly used for drone storage and launches. Earlier, on Monday, Pakistan carried out additional air raids along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, killing 28 militants. Afghan Taliban officials, however, reported that three civilians were killed in those strikes.
Islamabad has consistently accused the Taliban government of harboring Islamist militants who launch attacks into Pakistan from Afghan soil. Kabul denies these allegations, asserting that militancy within Pakistan is a domestic issue.
These recent clashes further strain relations between the two countries, which experienced their most intense fighting earlier this year.
