Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar convened a meeting on Tuesday to oversee the administrative preparations for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining a straightforward and accessible registration process to ensure the maximum number of beneficiaries receive assistance.

Dar instructed the responsible authorities to enhance public awareness efforts and guarantee the seamless execution of the scheme at petrol stations nationwide. This meeting came shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled the special relief initiative on Sunday, which provides a Rs100 per litre discount on petrol for motorcyclists, rickshaw and chingchi drivers, as well as owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc capacity.

In a significant development, Dar urged elected officials to actively promote information about the scheme and assist citizens during registration. He further directed that volunteers from the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme be mobilized to support outreach and registration activities.

Officials confirmed that the Fuel Relief Scheme is already operational in Islamabad and is scheduled for nationwide launch at 11:59 pm on September 16, 2026. The meeting included the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Minister for IT, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of State for Finance, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Secretary IT, and Members of the National Assembly from Islamabad Capital Territory.

Under the scheme, owners and users of motorcycles, rickshaws, and other two- and three-wheeled vehicles will receive Rs100 per litre discount on up to 20 litres of petrol monthly. Meanwhile, owners of small vehicles with engine capacities up to 800cc are eligible for the same Rs100 per litre relief on up to 30 litres per month.

To register, citizens must send a text message with the word REG followed by their CNIC number to 9771. They will also need to provide their vehicle number, provincial code, and registration date. Eligible individuals can obtain a fuel token by sending TOK to 9771, which can then be presented at petrol stations to avail the discounted fuel rate.
