The Sindh government has introduced a two-day weekend for all public and private schools, officially adding Saturday to the existing Sunday holiday. This decision, endorsed by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, aims to align with government austerity measures and optimize resource use across the province.
Consequently, schools will now operate from Monday through Friday, reducing the academic week to five days. To compensate for the shorter week, daily school hours will be extended by one hour, ensuring that academic activities continue without interruption.
This adjustment follows a recent policy change last month when the provincial government mandated a six-day school week starting August 1, requiring schools to remain open from Monday to Saturday. That directive was issued shortly after schools resumed classes following a two-month summer break from June 1 to July 31.
The education department emphasized that the current shift to a two-day weekend is part of broader austerity efforts and aims to enhance the efficient management of educational resources throughout Sindh.
