BLACKPINK Makes Triumphant Return with New EP After Over Three Years

Seoul witnessed a vibrant celebration on Friday as BLACKPINK, the internationally acclaimed K-pop girl group, unveiled their latest extended play (EP) titled “DEADLINE.” This release marks the band’s first new music offering since their second full-length album in 2022, ending a hiatus of more than three years. The excitement surrounding the comeback was palpable, with the National Museum of Korea in central Seoul illuminated in striking pink hues to honor the occasion, creating a dazzling spectacle that captured the attention of fans and passersby alike.

Inside the museum, over 300 enthusiastic fans gathered early in the day, eagerly lining up in the atrium which had been transformed into a dedicated listening zone. This special setup allowed attendees to immerse themselves in the five fresh tracks featured on the EP, including the energetic title song “GO” and the previously released electronic dance music (EDM) single “JUMP.” The atmosphere was electric, reflecting the deep connection BLACKPINK has cultivated with their global audience over the years.

The group’s immense popularity is underscored by a series of remarkable achievements. Earlier this month, BLACKPINK made history by becoming the first artist worldwide to surpass 100 million subscribers on YouTube, a testament to their widespread influence and dedicated fanbase. Their trailblazing journey also includes being the first K-pop ensemble to headline major international music festivals such as Coachella in the United States and the British Summer Time concerts in London, setting new standards for Korean pop music on the global stage.

Fans from various backgrounds expressed how BLACKPINK’s music resonates beyond borders. Ko Seon-a, a 20-year-old Korean woman residing in Japan, shared her experience, noting how K-pop’s presence has become a common thread in everyday life, whether walking down the street or visiting local shops and cafes. This widespread cultural penetration highlights the genre’s growing impact and the role BLACKPINK plays as cultural ambassadors.

In addition to their group activities, all four members renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment in 2023, while simultaneously branching out with their own agencies or signing separate deals to pursue solo careers. This dual approach allows them to maintain their collective identity while exploring individual artistic ventures. Notably, member ROSÉ achieved significant success with her 2025 solo single “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars, which topped charts and further solidified her status as a versatile artist.

Beyond music, BLACKPINK’s global appeal has sparked hopes among fans for a broader appreciation of Korean culture. Kwon Hyeok-jae, a 30-year-old fan dressed in a traditional pink hanbok, expressed his wish that the popularity of K-pop acts like BLACKPINK might help introduce and promote Korea’s rich cultural heritage to international audiences. This sentiment reflects a growing trend where contemporary Korean pop culture serves as a gateway to the country’s traditional arts and customs.

As BLACKPINK embarks on this new chapter with “DEADLINE,” their influence continues to extend beyond music, shaping perceptions of Korean culture worldwide and inspiring a new generation of fans. Their return not only marks a significant moment in the K-pop industry but also reinforces the global reach and enduring appeal of Korean entertainment.
