In a tragic incident that shook the law enforcement community, two policemen lost their lives while another sustained injuries in a suicide bombing targeting the Dajal checkpost located in Punjab’s Bhakkar district. The attack took place on Tuesday evening, coinciding with the time of Iftar, intensifying the shock and sorrow among the local population and security forces alike.

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Bhakkar, Shehzad Rafiq Awan, provided details about the assault, explaining that the explosion occurred near a strategic bridge that links Punjab with the neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This location is critical for maintaining security and monitoring movement between the two provinces, making it a sensitive target for militant activities.

The two brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in this attack have been identified as Constable Faheem Abbas and Constable Shehbaz Madani. Their dedication and ultimate sacrifice have been widely mourned by their colleagues and the community. Meanwhile, the injured officer, Constable Arshad, was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care. Hospital officials have reported that his condition remains stable, though he continues to be under close observation due to the severity of his injuries.

In response to this heinous act, Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Kareem expressed deep sorrow and paid homage to the fallen officers. He emphasized the immortal nature of their sacrifice, highlighting that their commitment to protecting the nation will always be remembered. IG Abdul Kareem assured that the families of the martyrs would receive unwavering support and that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority for the department. He further reiterated the resolve of Punjab Police to stand firm as a bulwark against terrorism and external threats, underscoring the courage and resilience of the force.

On the political front, President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the suicide bombing in the strongest terms. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred policemen and expressed profound grief over the loss of these brave individuals who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Similarly, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended her sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured officer. Her statements reflected the government’s commitment to supporting the families affected by such tragic events and ensuring justice is served.

This attack in Bhakkar occurred on the same day when another deadly assault targeted law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district. There, terrorists ambushed a police van on Shakardara Road, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people, including six policemen. Among the fallen was Deputy Superintendent Asad Mehmood, who was killed instantly in the attack. This series of coordinated attacks highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan’s police forces, particularly in regions bordering volatile areas.

These incidents underscore the persistent threat posed by militant groups aiming to destabilize peace and security in the country. The sacrifices made by police officers like Faheem Abbas, Shehbaz Madani, and Asad Mehmood serve as a stark reminder of the dangers faced daily by those tasked with protecting citizens. As the nation mourns these losses, authorities continue to strengthen counterterrorism measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
