Punjab Pioneers Launch of PIFTAC and Approves New Anti-Drone Security Unit

Punjab has taken a groundbreaking step in enhancing its security infrastructure by becoming the first province in Pakistan to inaugurate the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC). This innovative facility, established in Lahore, aims to revolutionize the way law enforcement agencies gather, analyze, and respond to security threats through cutting-edge technology and improved intelligence coordination.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally visited the newly launched centre to oversee its operational capabilities and to get a comprehensive briefing on how PIFTAC will function within the broader security framework of the province. During her visit, officials detailed the centre’s role in integrating various intelligence streams to facilitate real-time threat detection and rapid response, a move expected to significantly bolster public safety and law enforcement efficiency.

In addition to launching PIFTAC, the provincial government has approved the creation of Punjab’s first-ever dedicated anti-drone unit. This specialized team will focus on countering unauthorized drone activities, which have increasingly posed security challenges in recent years. The Chief Minister gave immediate approval for this initiative and emphasized the urgency of establishing a province-wide cybercrime cell to tackle the rising incidents of digital offenses and cyber threats.

Maryam Nawaz also stressed the importance of ongoing security operations, instructing law enforcement agencies to maintain rigorous combing activities aimed at safeguarding citizens’ lives and property. To further enhance border security, she ordered the installation of advanced digital scanners at all major entry and exit points across Punjab. These scanners are expected to improve the detection of illicit materials and unauthorized movements, reinforcing the province’s defenses against criminal activities.

Recognizing the need for streamlined administrative oversight, the Chief Minister directed the development of a dedicated digital dashboard for deputy commissioners in every district. This platform will facilitate quicker decision-making and foster better coordination among various security and administrative departments, ensuring a more cohesive approach to maintaining law and order.

Moreover, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the importance of strengthening the whistleblower system to enhance intelligence gathering from both the public and internal sources. This mechanism is designed to encourage timely reporting of suspicious activities, thereby enabling authorities to take swift action against terrorists and criminal networks operating within the province.

One of the most forward-looking aspects of PIFTAC is its integration of an artificial intelligence hub dedicated to cybersecurity and advanced analytical functions. The Chief Minister underscored the necessity of shifting from a reactive security stance to a proactive strategy that prioritizes prevention over response. This AI-driven approach is expected to provide Punjab’s security agencies with sophisticated tools to anticipate and neutralize threats before they materialize.

In her concluding remarks, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to transforming Punjab into the safest province in Pakistan. She assured that all available resources would be mobilized to protect the public and maintain peace, signaling a new era of technologically empowered security governance in the region.
