The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning for a severe heatwave expected to impact most districts of the province during the upcoming week. Temperatures are forecasted to rise significantly, remaining 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average between June 8 and June 12.

In northern Punjab, temperatures are predicted to range between 41°C and 44°C, while southern Punjab and the plains could experience even higher mercury levels, reaching between 44°C and 48°C. This surge in heat is anticipated to affect both urban centers and rural areas alike.

The heatwave alert encompasses numerous districts including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, and Faisalabad, where temperatures will remain well above normal. Additionally, southern and central Punjab districts such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Sargodha, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Noor Pur Thal, and Sahiwal are also expected to endure intense heat conditions.

Officials have highlighted that nighttime temperatures will stay unusually elevated, providing minimal relief to residents during the overnight hours. In a significant development, PDMA Director General Omar Javaid cautioned that the extreme heat might provoke dust storms and strong winds in certain areas, further increasing risks to public safety.

He advised the public to avoid exposure to direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., maintain adequate hydration, and take all necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The authority emphasized that vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor laborers, should particularly limit their exposure to the harsh conditions and adhere strictly to safety measures recommended by health and disaster management officials.
