Sindh Forms Committee to Probe Matric Exam Center Changes Controversy

Sindh’s Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahu, has intervened following widespread concerns over the sudden changes in matriculation exam centers. He has requested an urgent report from the Secretary of Universities and the relevant education boards to address the issue promptly. In a significant development, Rahu has also instructed the establishment of a fact-finding committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. He assured that a detailed report will be presented once the inquiry concludes.

Earlier, the All Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association (ASPSCA) expressed strong objections to the Board of Secondary Education Karachi’s (BSEK) handling of the matric exams. The association criticized the board’s decision to permit students to appear at any exam center of their choice, describing the administrative performance as flawed and unsatisfactory as the exams began on Friday.

ASPSCA Chairman Hyder Ali and General Secretary jointly condemned the last-minute selection and frequent alteration of exam centers, viewing these actions as clear evidence of poor management by the board.

The association outlined several key issues: a persistent failure in the board’s digital systems, including software glitches affecting enrollment and exam form submissions; the creation of small exam centers with over 1,000 students assigned to them, which they claim encourages cheating and corruption; and the inefficient use of administrative resources due to allowing students to select their own centers.

Moreover, ASPSCA questioned the competence of the Controller of Examinations, citing a lack of experience and insufficient knowledge of the city’s geography as factors contributing to the breakdown of the examination process.

The association highlighted the adverse impact on students, stating that the administrative disorder has caused significant mental stress, violating their right to a calm and fair exam environment.

In response, ASPSCA has formally urged senior officials to take immediate action to address these irregularities and implement emergency measures to restore transparency and order for the remainder of the matriculation exams.
