Karachi Police Launch Inquiry into Violent DHA Women’s Brawl

Karachi police have initiated a formal investigation into a violent clash between women at a residential building in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. The incident, which occurred approximately nine days ago on Khayaban-e-Bukhari, gained widespread attention after CCTV footage of the confrontation, including the alleged involvement of police officers, was circulated on social media.

The footage reveals two women engaged in a physical fight in the presence of uniformed police personnel. Notably, one woman is seen assaulting the other with an iron dumbbell. It has been claimed that the woman wielding the dumbbell is related to a senior police officer. Furthermore, police sources allege she directed someone to damage a CCTV camera at the building, with a man in plain clothes arriving alongside police officers and reportedly using a Kalashnikov rifle to destroy the camera.

The dispute reportedly originated over a vehicle being parked in another resident’s designated spot. The family affected by the altercation, which includes a brother and sister living with their mother, was allegedly subjected to violence during the incident. Subsequently, the woman connected to the senior police officer and her relatives filed a case against the siblings, who were later arrested. The FIR also accused the woman and her brother of snatching gold jewelry.

Additional CCTV footage shows a black double-cabin vehicle at the scene as police officers forcibly take away a young man, believed to be the injured woman’s brother. The injured woman, identified as Noor-ul-Ain, later shared a video on social media detailing the assault, describing injuries including bleeding from her nose and mouth, hair-pulling, and an eye injury.

Following the incident, the affected family reportedly vacated the apartment and relocated elsewhere. They also submitted a formal complaint to the Darakshan police station. The case has raised serious concerns about the conduct of the police officers involved and the potential influence of the senior officer’s relatives.

In a significant development, South Karachi Deputy Inspector General Asad Raza has ordered an inquiry into the matter, emphasizing that the investigation will be conducted on its merits. The South Investigation SP is leading the inquiry, and police that charges related to theft and snatching have been removed from the case. The behavior of the police personnel seen in the CCTV footage is also under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation.
