Pakistan and Malaysia have committed to bolstering their intelligence-sharing frameworks to effectively counter terrorism, drug trafficking, and human smuggling. This commitment was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail in Islamabad on Saturday.

The discussions were followed by delegation-level talks involving senior officials from both nations, focusing on reviewing bilateral relations and identifying opportunities to deepen collaboration in internal security and law enforcement.

Key topics included counterterrorism strategies, anti-narcotics operations, prevention of illegal immigration, and combating cybercrime. Both ministers emphasized that enhanced intelligence exchange would be crucial in tackling security threats and dismantling networks engaged in terrorism and drug trafficking.

In a significant development, the two sides agreed to intensify joint efforts against human smuggling, aiming to improve the effectiveness of their coordinated actions. They also resolved to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and the Royal Malaysian Police College by expanding training programs and sharing law enforcement expertise.

Cooperation in maritime security was another focal point, with agreements to establish a joint working group dedicated to coast guard operations and related security matters. Interior Minister Naqvi expressed optimism that the Malaysian minister’s visit would reinforce bilateral ties and open new avenues for collaboration.

He highlighted Malaysia’s notable economic and social advancements, recognizing the country as a vital partner for Pakistan. The talks also covered tourism and visa facilitation, with both sides exploring ways to promote travel and simplify visa procedures. Naqvi noted Malaysia’s popularity as a destination for Pakistani travelers and expressed hope for increased work quotas to enable more Pakistanis to seek employment there through legal channels.

Both ministers reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across various sectors. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Interior Secretary, Director General FIA, Inspector General Federal Constabulary, National Coordinator Nacta, Director General Passports, the Chief Commissioner, and Inspector General of Islamabad, among other senior officials.
