Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has affirmed that Pakistan is playing a genuinely committed role in mediating between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that considerable progress has been made with developments moving positively.
He made these remarks during delegation-level discussions with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Monday, amid a tense global environment and ongoing instability in the Gulf region.
Expressing appreciation for China’s support of Pakistan’s peace efforts, the Prime Minister endorsed President Xi Jinping’s four-point plan for global security and called for unified international measures to restore peace.
Notably, he praised the persistent diplomatic and strategic contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in advancing the mediation process.
Turning to bilateral relations, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the celebration of 75 years of friendship between Pakistan and China, a bond established by their founding leaders. He stressed that the current leadership is dedicated to preserving this historic legacy and enhancing bilateral and strategic cooperation.
In a significant development, the Prime Minister also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Premier Li Qiang and the Chinese people over the recent gas explosion at a coal mine in Shanxi province. He extended Pakistan’s full solidarity, expressing thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families.
Earlier, upon arrival at the Great Hall of the People, Shehbaz Sharif was formally welcomed by Premier Li Qiang and received a traditional guard of honor.
