The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday addressed its recent engagement with the government, confirming that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan held talks with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi regarding security challenges in the province.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram stated the discussion centered on terrorism issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with particular emphasis on the situation in Bannu. The meeting followed a violent confrontation on Saturday, where two police officers and two civilians lost their lives, and 25 militants were killed during clashes involving law enforcement, a peace committee, and insurgents.
Akram highlighted that the interior minister primarily focused on strategies to curb terrorism, stressing the need for enhanced coordination and improved response mechanisms to strengthen the province’s security framework.
In a notable clarification, Akram refuted claims made by Asad Nasir suggesting Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was present at the meeting. Aleema Khan herself denied any involvement, stating neither she nor any family member was aware of or attended the discussions. Akram confirmed that only Chief Minister Afridi and Barrister Gohar participated in the meeting, which was strictly about addressing terrorist attacks in KP, especially in Bannu.
Subsequently, Chief Minister Afridi posted on X that the meeting focused solely on recent terrorist incidents in Bannu and the overall law and order situation in the province, dismissing reports of any political dialogue during the session. The meeting took place at Barrister Gohar’s residence.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court has permitted Imran Khan two weekly meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays with family, lawyers, and associates. Despite this ruling, he reportedly has been denied visitor access for several weeks. PTI continues to advocate for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad after his diagnosis in late January with right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition.
