Pakistan Air Force Marks 7 Years of Operation Swift Retort with Renewed Resolve

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) recently observed the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort at its Air Headquarters in Rawalpindi, reflecting on a pivotal moment that showcased the service’s unwavering determination, professionalism, and strategic precision in modern aerial combat. This commemoration serves not only as a remembrance of past achievements but also as a reaffirmation of PAF’s enduring commitment to defending Pakistan’s airspace with honor and vigilance.

During the ceremony, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, NI (M), HJ, who currently leads the Air Force as Chief of the Air Staff, emphasized Pakistan’s stance as a responsible nation that seeks peace without compromising its dignity. He recalled the events of seven years ago when an adversary, under the cover of darkness, misjudged Pakistan’s resolve by violating its sovereignty. The PAF’s swift and measured response in broad daylight not only restored deterrence but also sent a clear message about the country’s capability to defend itself against a numerically superior foe.

Expanding on the evolving security landscape, the Air Chief highlighted the increasingly complex global and regional threats that have shaped the nature of warfare in recent years. Despite facing financial limitations since March 2021, the PAF has aggressively pursued a path of modernization and self-reliance. This transformation aims to position the Air Force as a Next Generation force, capable of meeting future challenges through advanced technology and innovative operational doctrines.

Significant strides have been made in enhancing combat and support systems, including the induction of indigenously developed unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare tools, and capabilities in space and cyber domains. These advancements have culminated in the creation of a unique, home-grown multi-domain Kill Chain, which integrates various platforms and assets to deliver precise and effective responses to threats.

Looking ahead, the Air Chief also referenced the landmark Marka-e-Haq operation conducted in May 2025, when Pakistan’s sovereignty was once again tested. For the first time, the PAF executed full-spectrum multi-domain operations with remarkable precision, decisively overwhelming the adversary. This operation demonstrated the Air Force’s enhanced capabilities by successfully downing advanced enemy aircraft such as the Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, and MiG-29, along with neutralizing unmanned aerial systems. Additionally, PAF forces carried out deep strikes inside hostile territory and dismantled sophisticated air defense systems, including the S-400 missile batteries and their command and control centers.

Reaffirming the Pakistan Air Force’s unwavering dedication to protecting the nation’s sovereignty, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu assured that the PAF will continue to stand as a symbol of national pride. The force remains committed to maintaining credible deterrence and upholding a vigilant yet responsible defense posture, ensuring that Pakistan’s skies remain secure against any future threats.
