Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has initiated a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across Peshawar in preparation for Eidul Azha. The operation aims to ensure the proper disposal of animal waste and uphold sanitation standards throughout the city during the festive period.
The campaign was officially launched by Shahab Ali Shah, who distributed gifts to sanitation workers and environmentally friendly waste-disposal bags to local residents. In a significant development, the chief secretary announced that the three districts demonstrating the best sanitation performance during Eid would be rewarded with special awards. Additionally, sanitation staff involved in the operation will receive an extra month’s salary as an incentive.
Shahab Ali Shah revealed that approximately 4,000 sanitation workers have been mobilized for this Eid operation. To facilitate efficient waste management, 16 collection points have been set up across 42 union councils specifically for the disposal of animal remains. Around 800 vehicles are being utilized to collect sacrificial waste and transport it to designated disposal sites.
Authorities have also arranged supplies of lime, chlorine, disinfectant sprays, and insecticides to maintain hygiene and curb the spread of diseases during the Eid holidays. Preventive health measures include fumigation and spraying activities conducted every morning and evening throughout the city.
Residents have been provided with special waste bags to promote the safe and organized disposal of animal remains during the celebrations. This coordinated effort reflects Peshawar’s commitment to public health and environmental cleanliness during one of the city’s most significant religious events.
