DreamWorks Animation’s latest project, Forgotten Island, has unveiled its official trailer, with the film scheduled for theatrical release on September 25. The announcement came from Universal Pictures, generating excitement months ahead of the premiere.
Directed and written by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, Forgotten Island features a notable voice cast including H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, and Lea Salonga. The story is set on Nakali, a mystical island inspired by Philippine mythology, and follows lifelong friends Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (voiced by Soberano). After becoming stranded on this enchanted island, they face the difficult choice of potentially losing their treasured shared memories in order to find their way back home.
During a recent event celebrating the trailer launch, H.E.R. expressed the personal significance of voicing a lead character connected to folklore she heard from her Filipino mother. The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist described the experience as deeply rewarding, stating that it allowed her to share a piece of her childhood with a global audience.
Notably, the trailer features a magical portal symbolized by the sun, an important emblem in Filipino culture. Liza Soberano shared an emotional reaction to this imagery, revealing that she was moved to tears. She reflected on how Filipino children might feel seeing their culture represented so beautifully on the big screen, calling it a monumental moment of pride for her and her country.
