The psychological thriller The Housemaid, featuring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, has officially launched on the Starz app as well as all Starz streaming and on-demand services. This film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel plunges viewers into a world where appearances are deceptive and the pursuit of perfection conceals darker truths. The story follows Millie, portrayed by Sweeney, who seeks to leave behind a troubled past by accepting a live-in housemaid position with the affluent Nina Winchester, played by Seyfried.

What begins as a hopeful new beginning for Millie quickly spirals into a tense and suspenseful narrative filled with secrets, manipulation, and shifting power dynamics. Beneath the immaculate surface of the Winchester household lies a complex web of intrigue and unexpected twists, designed to keep audiences on edge until the final moments. The film’s intricate plot and compelling performances have contributed to its widespread acclaim and popularity.

Alongside Sweeney and Seyfried, the cast includes notable actors such as Brandon Sklenar, known for his roles in It Ends With Us and 1923, Michele Morrone, who gained fame through Another Simple Favor and Subservience, and Elizabeth Perkins, celebrated for her work in This Is Us and Weeds. The movie’s commercial success has been remarkable, surpassing the earnings of Bridesmaids to become director Paul Feig’s highest-grossing film to date, raking in over $394 million worldwide.

In light of this overwhelming success, Lionsgate has announced the greenlighting of a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret. Production is anticipated to begin later this year, continuing the story based on the second novel in McFadden’s acclaimed trilogy. Sydney Sweeney is set to return not only as the lead actress but also as an executive producer, while Michele Morrone is expected to reprise his role. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the screenplay for the first film, is slated to write the sequel’s script, with Paul Feig returning to direct.

The Housemaid now forms part of Starz’s growing collection of exclusive films, joining titles such as Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Good Fortune, and The Long Walk. These movies are available solely on the platform, enhancing Starz’s appeal to subscribers seeking fresh and engaging content. Additionally, the network continues to air new episodes of the final season of Outlander every Friday, maintaining a steady stream of popular programming throughout the month.

With its gripping storyline, stellar cast, and record-breaking box office performance, The Housemaid has firmly established itself as a standout psychological thriller. Its arrival on Starz offers viewers an opportunity to experience the film’s suspenseful twists and complex characters from the comfort of their homes, while anticipation builds for the upcoming sequel that promises to delve even deeper into the dark secrets lurking beneath the surface.
