In a recent development in Karachi, law enforcement officials have successfully identified the key figures involved in the production and commissioning of a sizable Baal statue, which was confiscated from a workshop located in the Mehran Town area. The statue, crafted from cardboard and measuring approximately 11 to 12 feet in height and nearly three feet in width, was discovered during a police operation aimed at curbing activities that could incite unrest.

The investigation, led by officers from the Korangi Industrial Area police station, revealed that the statue was fabricated inside a local shop in Mehran Town before police intervened and took possession of the effigy. Authorities were able to trace the artisan responsible for creating the statue, identifying him as Ishtiaq. During questioning, Ishtiaq disclosed that he had been commissioned to build the statue by an individual named Imran, shedding light on the chain of command behind the project.

Further inquiries by the police led them to contact Imran, who in turn revealed that the order for the Baal statue had come from a cleric known as Aqeel. the police, the statue was reportedly intended to be used as a symbolic figure to be set ablaze during an upcoming Al-Quds rally, an event that often draws significant political and religious attention. This revelation has raised concerns about the potential for the statue to be used in a provocative manner during the demonstration.

The operation to seize the statue was prompted after a video surfaced on social media showing the Baal effigy being constructed inside the workshop. The footage quickly went viral, attracting widespread public scrutiny and prompting authorities to act swiftly. When police arrived at the scene, they found the workshop shuttered, with those involved having left the premises around the time of iftar, likely in response to the video’s circulation online.

Following the seizure, the Baal statue was transported to the police station for safekeeping while the investigation continues. Law enforcement officials have indicated that additional legal measures may be pursued once the inquiry is complete. They also confirmed that a detailed report regarding the incident will be submitted to senior authorities to determine the next steps in addressing the matter.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Karachi’s police in monitoring and preventing activities that could potentially incite communal tensions. The swift response to the viral video underscores the increasing role social media plays in alerting authorities to sensitive situations that require immediate attention. As the investigation unfolds, the police remain vigilant in ensuring that public order is maintained ahead of the Al-Quds rally and other significant events in the city.
