The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has introduced a comprehensive traffic management plan aimed at regulating vehicle movement within the sensitive Red Zone area of the federal capital. This initiative, announced on Friday, includes the closure of several major entry points and the establishment of alternative routes to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced security in the city’s core administrative district.

the traffic authorities, access to the Red Zone will be strictly controlled, with only Margalla Road and the route passing by the Marriott Hotel remaining open for vehicles entering this high-security area. All other roads leading into the Red Zone will be temporarily sealed off to minimize congestion and improve the overall management of traffic in this critical zone, which houses important government offices and diplomatic missions.

In addition to these restrictions, the ITP has announced specific road closures and diversions across various parts of Islamabad. For instance, Kulsum Plaza on Fazl-e-Haq Road, a key artery towards China Chowk, will be closed to all traffic. Motorists who usually rely on this route are now advised to take Jinnah Avenue as an alternative, which is expected to handle the redirected flow more efficiently.

Traffic coming from the Polyclinic area heading towards Lal Quarter Chowk via Luqman Hakim Road will also be rerouted. Commuters are encouraged to use Sadr Road instead, which provides a viable alternative and helps in dispersing traffic away from the congested zones. Furthermore, those traveling from sector G-6 to F-6 are recommended to utilize the China Chowk Underpass or Seventh Avenue through Jinnah Avenue to avoid delays.

The traffic plan also affects routes between Aabpara Chowk and the Serena Hotel along Suhrawardy Road, where diversions will be in place to facilitate smoother vehicle movement. Similarly, travelers coming from Club Road are advised to navigate through Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road to reach their destinations without encountering roadblocks.

Commuters originating from Bhara Kahu are given similar guidance, with the recommended path also involving Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road. These carefully planned detours are designed to reduce bottlenecks and maintain steady traffic flow across the city’s main corridors.

The Islamabad Traffic Police has appealed to all road users to cooperate fully with the enforcement teams and adhere to the new traffic advisories. Following these instructions will help prevent unnecessary inconvenience and contribute to a safer, more orderly traffic environment in the capital. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and may adjust the traffic plan as needed to respond to changing conditions.
