QUETTA: Police officials in Quetta have been prohibited from engaging with the media or sharing operational information and multimedia content on social media platforms without prior official permission. This directive was issued by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Imran Shaukat.
The decision follows repeated incidents where officers posted updates on police performance, operational details, and internal departmental matters on various social media channels despite earlier warnings against such actions.
The directive explicitly states that police personnel are not allowed to provide interviews, statements, or share photos and videos—whether personal or official—on unauthorized platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube without prior approval.
Furthermore, all media communications and public disclosures related to police activities must be authorized through the Public Relations Officer (PRO) and subsequently approved by the DIG Quetta.
Officers have also been instructed to promptly report any social media content concerning police operations, staff, or internal affairs that might harm the police force’s reputation, discipline, or morale to the PRO Branch.
This order is effective immediately. DIG Imran Shaukat emphasized that any breach of these instructions will be taken seriously and may lead to disciplinary measures under the relevant service regulations.
The notification has been distributed among senior police leadership across the province, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan, additional IGPs, divisional police chiefs, as well as DSPs and SHOs in Quetta and Mastung districts, mandating strict adherence to the new rules.
