In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Hamza Farrukh as the new chairperson of the Pakistan Climate Change Authority (PCCA) on a two-year contract. The notification specifies that Farrukh’s contract began immediately and will continue until further notice. His remuneration package includes a monthly salary and benefits aligned with the highest tier of the Special Professional Pay Scale-I (SPPS-I), reflecting the importance of his role in the government’s climate agenda.
Hamza Farrukh brings a unique blend of expertise to the position as a climate-technology entrepreneur and founder of Hydrosun Technologies. His background combines innovative technology with environmental sustainability, positioning him well to lead the PCCA’s initiatives. Prior to this appointment, Farrukh held a senior leadership role as vice president at Goldman Sachs in London, where he worked from 2016 to 2023, gaining valuable experience in global finance and strategic management.
Educationally, Farrukh is highly accomplished, holding master’s degrees from Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability and Graduate School of Business. Additionally, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Williams College. His academic credentials and professional background underscore his capability to drive Pakistan’s climate policies forward amid growing environmental concerns.
