The 2026 Actor Awards ceremony turned into a profoundly emotional evening as the late Catherine O’Hara was honored posthumously, just a month after her passing. The beloved actress, who died on January 30 at the age of 71, was awarded the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her memorable portrayal of Patty Leigh in the hit show The Studio. This recognition came as a poignant reminder of her immense talent and lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

In a touching moment, O’Hara’s co-star and the show’s co-creator, Seth Rogen, accepted the award on her behalf. His heartfelt speech resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom were visibly moved by his words. Rogen spoke candidly about the privilege of working alongside O’Hara, highlighting her extraordinary blend of kindness and fearless creativity that set her apart in the world of comedy.

Rogen shared intimate insights into O’Hara’s dedication to her craft, revealing that she would often send detailed rewrites of her scenes to him and co-creator Evan Goldberg before filming. These revisions, he explained, consistently elevated not only her character but also the entire scene and the show’s overall quality. This level of commitment underscored her passion for excellence and her collaborative spirit.

One of the most memorable lines from Rogen’s tribute was his assertion that O’Hara demonstrated it was possible to be both a genius and a kind person simultaneously. This sentiment struck a chord with everyone in attendance, encapsulating the essence of O’Hara’s personality and professional ethos. He concluded by encouraging fans and newcomers alike to revisit her iconic performances in classics such as Beetlejuice and Best in Show, emphasizing how fortunate the world was to have witnessed her remarkable talent.

It is important to note that Catherine O’Hara’s passing followed a brief illness. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health later confirmed that the immediate cause of death was pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer identified as the underlying condition. Throughout her career, O’Hara earned widespread acclaim, including five nominations at the Actor Awards. Her first nomination came in 2011 for her role in Temple Grandin, followed by four nominations for her work in Schitt’s Creek between 2020 and 2021. Notably, she and her Schitt’s Creek castmates won the ensemble award in 2021, cementing their place in television history.

In tribute to her legacy, a Catholic Mass was held in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day last month, where friends, family, and fans gathered to celebrate her life and contributions to the arts. The posthumous award at the Actor Awards serves as a final, heartfelt acknowledgment of Catherine O’Hara’s enduring influence and the deep affection held for her by colleagues and audiences worldwide.
