The federal government has once again raised the prices of petrol and High Speed Diesel (HSD), marking the seventh consecutive increase in fuel rates. This latest adjustment comes as part of ongoing efforts to align domestic fuel prices with fluctuating international oil markets and regulatory guidelines.
In this recent revision, the cost of petrol has been increased by Rs4.10 per litre, while diesel prices have surged by Rs6.41 per litre. As a result, the new retail price for petrol is set at Rs384.34 per litre, whereas diesel will now be sold at Rs415.83 per litre. These changes reflect the government’s response to rising global crude oil prices and the need to manage fiscal pressures.
The updated fuel prices have been officially sanctioned following a notification from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which plays a pivotal role in recommending price adjustments based on market conditions and economic factors. This regulatory approval is a key step before the federal government implements any changes in fuel tariffs.
Meanwhile, the continuous increase in fuel prices over the past several months has raised concerns among consumers and businesses alike, as it directly impacts transportation costs and inflation. The government faces the challenge of balancing revenue requirements with the economic burden on the public, especially amid a complex global energy landscape.
