On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a crucial high-level meeting in Lahore to assess and strengthen the national security framework amid rising regional tensions. Recognizing the gravity of the current security challenges, the Prime Minister instructed all federal and provincial agencies to implement comprehensive and robust security protocols without delay. This decisive move reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s stability in a rapidly evolving environment.
The meeting was called in response to recent hostile activities along Pakistan’s western border, particularly following the launch of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. This operation was initiated after the Afghan Taliban reportedly opened unprovoked fire at multiple locations within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, escalating cross-border tensions. The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity for seamless coordination among all security and intelligence agencies to effectively counter these threats and maintain peace across the nation.
During the session, officials briefed the Prime Minister on the heightened alert status of all security forces, assuring him that proactive measures are underway to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Prime Minister reiterated that every institution must work in unison, fostering harmony and collaboration to confront any challenges to national security. This unified approach is critical to ensuring swift and effective responses to any potential threats.
In addition to border security concerns, the Prime Minister addressed the unfolding situation in Iran, which had been recently targeted by strikes from the United States and Israel earlier that day. Acknowledging the potential risks to Pakistani nationals residing in Iran, he directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate and concrete steps to facilitate the safe evacuation of Pakistanis from the region. Special instructions were given to arrange their secure transit through Azerbaijan, with the ministry tasked to establish prompt communication with Azerbaijani authorities to coordinate the repatriation process efficiently.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound confidence in the country’s armed forces, praising their dedication and professionalism under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. He highlighted that the military continues to perform its duties with unwavering national spirit and commitment, standing as a formidable shield protecting Pakistan’s security interests. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by security personnel in the ongoing fight against terrorism, acknowledging the nation’s deep respect and gratitude for their relentless efforts.
As the geopolitical landscape remains volatile, the government’s proactive stance and the armed forces’ readiness underscore Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and maintain internal stability. The Prime Minister’s directives aim to ensure that all relevant institutions remain vigilant and prepared to respond effectively to any emerging threats, reinforcing the country’s security apparatus at every level.
