Ten Entities Prequalified for FESCO Privatisation Process

In a significant development for Pakistan’s energy sector, ten interested parties have been prequalified to participate in the privatisation of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO). This move is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance efficiency and attract private investment in the power distribution sector. The prequalification process ensures that only capable and financially sound entities proceed to the next stage of bidding.

Privatisation of state-owned utilities like FESCO is aimed at improving service delivery, reducing losses, and encouraging competition within the energy market. The involvement of multiple parties indicates strong investor interest, which could lead to better management and infrastructure upgrades. Meanwhile, the government is expected to finalize the bidding process soon, moving closer to handing over operational control.

The successful privatisation of FESCO could serve as a model for other distribution companies in Pakistan, potentially transforming the power sector landscape. It aligns with ongoing reforms to address circular debt and improve financial sustainability in the energy industry. Notably, this step is crucial for meeting growing electricity demand and supporting economic growth across the country.
